THEY HACK EVERYONE. WHY CYBER THREATS ARE SOMETHING THAT AFFECTS EVERYONE

The number of cyberattacks in the world is increasing, and is likely to continue to increase. Pandemic has significantly accelerated digitalization, so it is almost impossible to stop these processes. Cybersecurity will become a more hot topic, wrote Nicholas Tymoshchuk, CEO of UFuture holding, in an op-ed on NV.

Some of the newest and most powerful types of cyberattacks have been tested in Ukraine, he noted. American company Jigsaw, one of the startups of the Alphabet holding, which owns Google, has long claimed that our country has become an incubator and testing ground for many of the latest methods of cyber and hybrid warfare.

Affects everyone

Governments have long lost their monopoly on cyber weapons: the industry is highly democratized and commercialized.

"Absolutely everything that is digital or on an electronic device can be hacked. Even if the device or application is not connected to the Internet or any other network. Not only software is broken, but also hardware. Moreover, you can access devices through the software and vice versa. For example, you can use radio waves to reprogram the microprocessor of any device at any distance. Or get access to any phone if it is in the range of a certain WiFi network, even if it is not connected to it," said the CEO of UFuture.

And this is not something new. It has been happening all over the world since the Cold War. Almost anyone can buy a cyber arsenal if he has money. Everyone can spy, hack and control anyone.

Security for business

Cynical professional cybercriminals say there are two types of organizations: those that have been hacked and those that don’t. In 2021, the number of cyberattacks on corporate sites, compared to the previous year, increased by 50%. In 2022, the number of attacks is projected to increase. The most attacked are the resources of infrastructure facilities (education and health care) and government organizations.

"The issue of cybersecurity will become a more hot topic. This is our reality, which is worth knowing – because it is very dangerous not to know it," summed up the top manager.
