“Kyiv” International Airport Expanded Its Terminal A by 9 500 sq. meters
May 23, 2019, “Kyiv” Sikorsky International Airport opened the new space of the Terminal A. The terminal was built for UEFA Euro 2012 and opened on May 17, 2012. Its area initially was 14,200 m2.
Ten months before, the airport’s shareholders decided to expand terminal A and double its capacity, thereby improving its services and making it more comfortable for its clients. Terminal A area has increased by 9,500 m2 and currently totals 23,700 m2.
“We decided to expand the international terminal so that Kyiv residents and guests of the city don’t have to queue during the peak hours. Our group systematically reinvests profits for the development of the airport, and has invested UAH 630 million in the current reconstruction of the new terminal alone. We want to show, by our own example, the effectiveness of public-private partnership, especially in infrastructure projects of international importance,” said Vasyl Khmelnytsky, Founder of UFuture.
On the ground floor – the new wing of the terminal – there will be 18 check-in and 9 aviation security checkpoints, and 18 border control checkpoints on the second floor. The new wing of the terminal will open a large Duty Free store, WOG cafe, Bellota restaurant with Spanish cuisine, Varenik Fly with Ukrainian dishes, Market Plaza, and several souvenir shops.
In addition, on the station square in front of the new wing of the Terminal A, a new parking with 135 places was built, which should increase the space by almost 40%. The sum of investments for the project amounted at UAH 630 million.
The updated Terminal is a gift not only for the residents of Kyiv and passengers, but also for the airport itself, as the day after the ceremonial opening on May 25, 2019, the airport celebrates its 95th anniversary!
“Kyiv” International Airport served over 854,400 passengers in January–April 2019, which is 36,5% more compared to last year’s figure for the same four-month period. It plans to serve another 3 million passengers by the end of the year.
