The transition to digitalization is one of the main global trends. Smart solutions, applications, process automation, artificial intelligence, algorithms, cybersecurity — today these neologisms have become mandatory elements of tactics and strategies of most modern companies. After all, if the organization is not present online and does not have a convenient automated platform for providing services, it is not on the market.

In the column for NV, managing partner of the innovation park UNIT.City Constantine Yevtushenko talks about the new creative class and market trends of creators who write today’s reality.

• The zero market needed lawyers. Times of digitalization — STEM-specialists. Last year, exports of Ukrainian IT services broke a record amount, having tripled since 2014 to more than $5 billion. Therefore, today IT professionals are becoming “lawyers and economists” of the 2020s.
• Salaries in programming are kept at the level of the world and are three times higher than the average salary in Ukraine. An IT portfolio specialist can earn $1500-2000 from the beginning.
• During the week, one IT specialist receives an average of two or three job invitations. Higher education is not required — skills are important to customers, not a diploma.
• Age, gender or basic education are not an obstacle to development in IT. The defining investment is the efficiency and time that a person is willing to devote to programming.
• In recent years, the number of women in programming is growing — currently in the field of about 30%. This is an open market, accessible to any persistent person with abilities in engineering and natural sciences. There are no gender barriers.
• Last year, there were more than 200,000 registered sole proprietors in the field of IT in Ukraine. Strong science and technology education has already formed strong IT communities around universities and programming schools in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Dnipro. IT parks and clusters are gradually appearing all over Ukraine.
• 38% of people are ready to agree to social assistance and live exclusively in the virtual dimension. This means that the basic needs of humanity are changing and approaches to work are changing. The market for virtual games is developing, medicine is being virtualized, startups for growing artificial meat and stem cells are appearing, and 3D printing of products is becoming more popular. And, of course, robotics in all areas.
